Bicycle Tour

Timeframe: October 2014 - July 2015

Instead of going to college immediately after graduating high school, I took a leave year and spent nine months touring the United States by bicycle. Beginning in October, 2014, I loaded up my bicycle and started riding south along the west coast. Over the following nine months I biked 10,000 miles, visiting each corner of the continental United States and crossing through 28 states and Canada. The reason for this trip was to gain some perspective about the country I call home and to meet people from all walks of life.

Approximate tour route

West Coast

(Oct. 16 - Nov. 29)

The first leg of my trip was the West Coast. This section of the trip consisted of many rainy days, but also many spectacular views from the Redwood forest to the towering ocean cliffs of Highway 1.

One of the many views from Highway 1 on the California coast.

Left: Halloween morning in the redwoods Right: A missile park I had no idea existed, one of many unexpected detours.

Left: One of the beautiful bridges on HW 1. This was an uncommon but welcome sight, as the highway went down and back up for most canyons.

Right: The home of my host in San Francisco.

Southern Tier

(Nov. 30 - Mar 2)

East Coast

(Mar 3 - May 28)
